Templating social media

The goal at EyeEm was to promote the creators, the life and soul of the EyeEm community. We needed to reflect an editorial style throughout our social channels. I needed to create something that would feel like a magazine but help to reduce design resources.

Solution

My solution was to design a library of dynamic templates for Instagram. Using a strict set of grids and adhering to the brand guidelines, these templates could be easily applied by anyone in the social media and marketing teams.

Benefits

Regardless of any basic design knowledge, the templates would allow content creators to be mindful of breathing space, image placement, headline, and body copy sizes.

Consistency

Growing social channels whilst maintaining a business's core branding is a relentless task, and consistency is king here. Designers often feel the burden of time dumped into creating individual posts on the demand of marketing and social teams. Social can become a distraction.

Growth by design

Creating a library of social media templates takes a lot of time and knowledge of what is needed from each platform. On top of this, the templates have to be accessible and easy to use.

Taking the time to do this has two key outcomes. Firstly, social media managers can produce assets on the fly without looping in excess design resources. Secondly, this results in channel growth, as posting on time can be achieved more frequently.
